As a baby, her clan village was attacked by Vanir raiders. She was sold to Stygian slave traders and transported to Khemi, where she was sold again to a small merchant's family.
She endured a youth of abuse and slavery, knowing little of her past, other than her name. No one knows what it means, but it is what the old crone who nursed her on the slavers ship to Khem had called heri. Unfortunately the old crone had proved unsellable in the slave market, and was sacrificed to Set, so Misnaefus knows no more of her past.
During her youth, Misneafas festered a dark hatred for her fellow Cimerians. While shopping with her mistress, she frequently saw wealthy Cimerians strolling through the souk, and could not understand why they did not save her. Things became worse, when a fellow Cimerian slave girl had her freedom bought by her family. Misnaefus vowed that her family and clan would one day pay for deserting her.
After fifteen years of servitude, Set appeared to Misnaefus in a dream. In exchange for her servitude, Set would grant Misnaefus her freedom. Misnaefus readily agreed. Before long, her owner's business was failing. And during her regular abuse sessions, the merchant frequently complained that she was too old and beyond use. Soon, the merchant was struggling to feed his slaves, and as the least useful Misnaefus was cast out onto the streets of Khemi to fend for herself.
The story of her free life thus began...
